The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre 20-20 Campaign

Broccolini Construction is a proud supporter of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation’s 20-20 Campaign in support of major expansion of The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre expansion at the General Campus.

When we think about cancer and the people around us, we all know at least one person – a family member, friend, colleague – who has been diagnosed with this disease.  Recognizing that facilities such as The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre provide vital services in our community, Broccolini Construction has made a commitment of $100,000 towards the 20-20 Campaign.

The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre is undergoing its largest expansion in history.  A $78.3 million project planned for completion in early 2010.   While the Ontario Government will be contributing almost 80% of the project cost, The Ottawa Hospital Foundation reached out to the community in May of 2008, to raise the remaining funds – $20 million in 20 months.

The expansion, which is currently underway, will increase the Centre’s size to 93,000 square feet, almost doubling its capacity and bringing new treatment facilities to the community.  The Centre is the second-largest cancer service provider in Ontario.  More than half of all patients at The Ottawa Hospital are being treated for cancer and cancer follow-up.  At present, approximately 21,000 patients are treated each year, and this number is expected to grow to 100,000 patients over the next five years.  Recognizing the more than quadrupling demand for cancer services, the Centre’s expansion is a much needed project.

For Broccolini Construction, contributing to the 20-20 Campaign allows us to have a significant impact on the 1.2 million people who live in Eastern Ontario.  With the matching programs offered by the Ontario government, our $100,000 commitment will generate a total of $330,000 for this critically important project.
