Address: 20500 route Transcanadienne, Baie d'Urfé
Completion date: 2005
Building area: 60,000 sq.ft.
Exhibiting a contemporary and stylish look, the architecture of this building reflects the customer's desire to confirm its leading role in America, while also supporting sustainable development. The realization of the project ensured the integration of environmentally responsible strategies recognized by the LEED® rating system.
Founded in 1955 in Canada by Rolf C. Hagen, The Hagen Group of Companies is one of the most important and efficient private producers and distributors worldwide in the pet food and pet accessories industry.
The proposed 60,000 sq.ft. project received LEED® Gold Certification from the Canada Green Building Council. The reduction of water consumption, use of products made from recycled materials and the improvement of air quality were part of the enthusiastic initiatives for this environmentally-friendly building. The installation of a geothermal heating/air conditioning system helps to reduce electricity consumption by over 50%. The incredible savings in energy costs and subsidies represented a return on investment of 5 years for the upgrade of the geothermal system. The building is equipped with a fitness centre, an emergency generator and a few indoor parking spaces.
One of the challenges faced during construction was the location of the building on the selected site and the development of the land within the existing green spaces, which included a stream, mature trees and vegetation, all to be preserved.
