Julie Hawa is a Certified General Accountant with close to 20 years of experience, most notably in the roles of Controller and Senior Accountant. She earned her Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from Concordia University in 1992 and Certificate of Accounting from McGill University in 1997, where she graduated with distinction (4.0 GPA). She became a CGA in 1999, having ranked 4th in Canada in the CGA Taxation Exam.
In her previous positions she was responsible for managing her employers’ overall financial affairs, including maintaining fiscal records, preparing monthly internal statements, budgets, and forecasts, as well as for overseeing and supervising all accounting department activities. Julie has experience with foreign currencies, international trade and setting up subsidiaries. She is well-acquainted with all forms of share transactions, and has experience in property and real estate accounting (leases, capital expenditures, capital acquisitions, etc.). Julie came on board at Broccolini in November, 2014. As Controller, she is charged with reviewing and verifying the financial statements and records for all of Broccolini’s companies and divisions, for job cost analysis, payroll processing and reconciliation, audit preparation, including year-end audit files, as well as for managing and overseeing the work of all accounting staff.
Very analytical and structured in her work, Julie is able to identify and capitalize on opportunities by implementing cost controls and cost-cutting strategies that improve profitability and cash flow. She has strong communication and negotiation skills, allowing her to comfortably negotiate with subcontractors and liaise effectively with provincial and federal government organizations and other stakeholders. Julie is very personable and approachable, easily earning the respect and confidence of her team and colleagues.
