Sanmina

Sanmina, a manufacturer of complex and innovative optical, electronic and mechanical products, had to move into new facilities in a very short time span. Broccolini submitted its proposal and, with the support of the City of Kanata, the project was executed in record time.

Broccolini was mandated to carry out the design-build project for this new manufacturing facility for Sanmina, located in Kanata, a large suburb of Ottawa. The 2-storey building was built in the record time of 10 months in order to allow Sanmina to smoothly relocate into the building within the deadline, before their previous lease expired.

The primary challenge of this project was unequivocally the short timeframe for completion. The project started in September 2014 and was completed by June 2015, thereby meeting the required delivery schedule. The client was extremely satisfied that Broccolini was able to respect their commitment to accommodate the time constraint.

The ground floor of the building consists of two distinct zones, the administrative areas and the production area. The administrative area includes the reception, a showroom, a cafeteria, a kitchenette, a service counter, two meeting rooms and one training room. The production area consists of a clean room, a locker room, a production area, and shipping/receiving, as well as loading docks with supervisors' offices, storage space, and utility rooms. The second-floor houses workstations and meeting rooms as well as a coffee bar.

One of the key architectural elements of this design consists of the installation of a pergola style wooden screen between the waiting room and the service counter. The façade is composed mainly of insulation boards and a glazed curtain wall system paired with brick veneer.
