Breaking bread

During the 1950s and 1960s, Broccolini earned a reputation as a trusted builder of high-quality homes. In those days, deals were sealed with a handshake, and meetings often took place at the home of Donato and his wife, Jeanette, who would prepare home-cooked lunches for workers and clients alike. This tradition of sharing a meal and fostering relationships remains a hallmark of Broccolini’s culture today.

A family legacy takes shape

Broccolini’s evolution into a family-led enterprise began with the formal partnership between Donato and his younger brother Sabatino, under the name Broccolini Builders Inc. This defining moment anchored the company in shared values, a unified vision, and a commitment to enduring craftsmanship.

Building communities 

Throughout the 1960s and 70s, the company evolved from building the occasional home to constructing multiple houses at a time, and eventually developing entire tracts of land and city blocks — transforming modest beginnings into vibrant, thriving communities.

The second Broccolini generation builds on 

Entrepreneurial from a young age, Joseph, John, Paul, and Peter joined their father in the business, bringing a shared drive to expand beyond residential construction. Under their leadership, the company formalized its name as Broccolini Construction, a defining step toward becoming the integrated builder it is today.

Entering the commercial sector

Thanks to the enthusiasm and tenacity that became hallmarks of the company, Broccolini secured its first million-dollar project: the Avenue Pontiac Buick dealership. This milestone marked the company’s foray into commercial construction.

Complex builds take flight

Building on its early commercial success, Broccolini was awarded the contract to build an airplane hangar for Innotech Aviation — a complex, high-profile project that helped establish its reputation as a builder capable of delivering challenging, specialized facilities.

The extended family joins 

As the business grew, so did the need for more hands. For the first time, Broccolini welcomed members of its extended family into the company — many of whom remain part of the team to this day.

Breaking new ground in industrial

Broccolini delivered a 300,000-square-foot bottling and distribution facility for Molson, its most ambitious project to date, purpose-built to support large-scale operations.

First real estate acquisition

Following a downturn in the industry, Broccolini seized the opportunity to acquire its first property in Pointe-Claire, Quebec — a strategic move that opened a new chapter, establishing a platform for long-term growth in real estate development and investment.

Broccolini turns 50

The company celebrated its 50th anniversary in style, bringing together employees, suppliers, and collaborators who helped build its first half-century.

Delivering scale

Broccolini was awarded the contract for a 1.6-million-square-foot distribution centre for Canadian Tire in Coteau-du-Lac, the largest project in its history at the time.

Broccolini's high rise debut in Ottawa

With Anthony on board, the company entered the Ottawa market with Telus House, its first high-rise and a flagship project in the city’s downtown core. Built to LEED Gold standards, the project introduced Broccolini to sustainable, vertical construction and cemented its presence in the National Capital Region.

Investing in the future

Broccolini launched its first limited partnership and development fund, expanding its reach beyond construction and ownership into integrated real estate investment.

The third Broccolini generation enters

Having spent their youth on job sites alongside their fathers and grandfather, Anthony and Michael were among the first of the third generation to join the family business. They were then joined by their siblings and cousins — Teresa, Adriano, and Giulio— each following in the footsteps of those who came before them and contributing to the continued evolution of the Broccolini legacy.

Broccolini Property Management

The company introduced its Property Management division, strengthening its service offering and ensuring oversight from development through day-to-day operations.

Establishing presence in Toronto

Following success in Ottawa, Broccolini set its sights on Canada’s largest market. Opening a permanent Toronto office, the company quickly established itself in the GTA with projects across residential, industrial, and commercial sectors. 

Scaling up with the Saputo Stadium

Ahead of the Montreal Impact’s entry into Major League Soccer, Broccolini was selected to build a new soccer-specific stadium, and in later years expanded and modernized it, increasing capacity and upgrading facilities to meet international standards.

Reaching new heights

Broccolini completed L/Avenue, its first skyscraper in downtown Montreal. Designed as a stepped tower of three sculpted volumes, it became the city’s tallest residential building and added a bold new presence to the skyline.

A strong partnership begins

In 2018, Broccolini delivered one of Canada’s largest industrial projects — a state-of-the-art, one-million-square-foot Amazon facility in Ottawa, completed in record time. 

This project marked the beginning of a growing partnership, which has since expanded across Ontario, Quebec, and beyond, developing and building more than 21 million additional square feet of Amazon facilities delivered.

Shaping Montreal's skyline

Broccolini broke ground on three landmark projects that now define Montreal’s evolving skyline: Victoria sur le Parc, 628 Saint-Jacques, and the new National Bank headquarters, a reflection of the company’s strength and vision in its home city.

Delivering a national landmark

Broccolini was selected to develop the new CBC/Radio-Canada headquarters in Montreal — one of the country’s most prominent media infrastructure projects — reinforcing its ability to deliver complex, high-performance facilities in dense urban settings.

$2 billion in capital raised

The close of our Fund #8 marked a major inflection point, pushing total capital raised since the inception of our fund platform to nearly $2 billion. A testament to the strength of our strategy and the confidence of our partners.

Top 10 builder

For the first time in its history, Broccolini was ranked among the Top 10 builders in Canada by On-Site Magazine, cementing its reputation as an industry leader. Since then, the company has consistently delivered over $1 billion annually in construction volume — an extraordinary achievement that reflects its continued growth and excellence.

River&Fifth rises

Broccolini’s first condominium development in Toronto’s Downtown East, River & Fifth, rose 41 storeys at the foot of the Don Valley, boldly marking the company’s entrance into the city’s competitive residential market.

Celebrating 75 years and counting

Broccolini celebrated its 75th anniversary, having grown from a single home in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce to landmark projects across Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa.

With over 400 employees and a legacy rooted in family, craftsmanship, and ambition, Broccolini is poised to shape the next 75 years with the same spirit that has defined every generation.
