Address: 1340 Pickering Parkway, Pickering
Completion date: 2012
Building area: 10,000 sq.ft.
This post-secondary institution is located on the north side of Highway 401, in the center of the revitalized downtown Pickering, directly connected to the pedestrian bridge that spans across the 14 lanes of Highway 401. The building is shared by Durham College and Centennial College.
Once again, Broccolini teamed up with developer and property manager 20VIC. The development firm manages a building located in Pickering, east of Toronto, which needed to expand its work space in order to better accommodate one of the current occupants, Durham College.
In response to growing demand, the school expanded its facilities by 10,000 sq.ft. divided over 2 floors. Durham College and Centennial College, partners in this expansion project, wanted to make post-secondary education more accessible for the city of Pickering. Thus, the new building, the Pickering Learning Site (PLS), was established and includes 4 classrooms, a computer lab, a student space, and an office space. The center can accommodate nearly 300 students in one convenient location.
The construction project began in February 2012 and finished in August of the same year, just in time for the start of the fall session of classes.
Broccolini prides itself on the privileged relationship they have developed with 20VIC. The Durham College project served to strengthen the bonds of this partnership.
